Uencounter.me has partnered with a number of travel bloggers who share our core values of integrity, honesty, and transparency. Over the next several months, we are highlighting them in our Partner Series. We hope this allows you to get to know them better and remember, you can follow all of their travel and blog posts via their personal pin map on uencounter.me!
The sixth in our series introduces Jan Ross from WanderlustWonder [dot] com; we asked her a series of questions and her answers follow:
Please tell us a little bit about you personally:
I retired after 20 years as a librarian and decided to finally indulge my love for travel and writing. It’s been almost three years and I have a travel blog and write for a variety of online and print venues. I am living my dream life and almost can’t believe it! My dad was a Marine so we traveled my whole life but I have had to gradually introduce my husband to the concept since had had never left his home state or even seen the ocean until he met me! We have been married almost 35 years; have two grown children and a lovely grandson. My husband is my rock, my favorite travel partner, and my trusty photographer. Without his great photos, my stories would be much less interesting!
How long have you been blogging and why do you do it?
I have been travel blogging for three years but had a personal blog and wrote for a newspaper blog for several years before that. I love blogging because I can write with my own style and have the instant gratification of seeing it in print immediately!
How did you decide upon the title and direction of your blog?
My husband and I tinkered with several ideas, most of which had to do with getting lost when we traveled which happens a lot! But we decided that was not a good idea to put out there since it made us look like we didn’t know what we were doing so we decided on Wanderlustwonder, which I love. Travel and writing are two of my favorite things so pairing the two was a natural fit.
What is your favorite blogging experience?
When people tell me they liked something I wrote or that I am a good writer. I got an email the other day that described my writing as “delightful” and it made my day!
What has been your most treasured travel experience?
Oh, so many! I guess our river cruise in Europe would have to be my most treasured since we had never been to Europe and it was just an incredible experience. The food, the cruise ship, the cities, and the friends we made – all incredible.
If you could return to any one of the locations you have visited, where would it be and why?
I absolutely adored the Hawaiian islands and would love to go back. We were with an escorted tour and, although it was wonderful and we got to see four of the islands, we did not have a lot of time to explore on our own, which I would like to do.
We went to Arizona for the first time this year and I would love to go back and see more of the west. Also New England – especially in the fall. And a cruise in the Med – so many choices!
Please add anything else you would like say:
I am really pleased to be partnering with UEncounter. It’s really nice to have them share on Twitter and I think it will help readers find my travel blog, which I really appreciate. I also think it’s a great service to people who are planning travel and want to read about other people’s personal experiences. I also appreciate the fact that they are very willing to listen to suggestions and input from those of us who are using the site. Thanks for everything!
