Uencounter.me has partnered with a number of travel bloggers who share our core values of integrity, honesty, and transparency. Over the next several months, we are highlighting them in our Partner Series. We hope this allows you to get to know them better and remember, you can follow all of their travel and blog posts via their personal pin map on uencounter.me!
The eleventh in our series introduces Kristi, a travel blogger with a passion and author of Necessary Indulgences; we asked her a series of questions and her answers follow:
Please tell us a little bit about you personally:
My name is Kristi, I am married to John, and we have 2 “kids” in college – Michael & Kelly. I’m a native Floridian and live on the Space Coast of Florida. I love to cook, eat, travel, take pictures, grill, and I enjoy all types of music.
How long have you been blogging and why do you do it?
I started blogging in February of 2010.
I hope to encourage more people to cook. I think a lot of people get discouraged when they see a long list of ingredients in a recipe. Too many people think cooking is a chore.
For me, cooking is about playing with ingredients and creating something out of flavors and textures that I enjoy. It’s about seeing what happens rather than following a recipe word for word.
I hope to encourage more people to cook like that – from their curiosity.
I also want people to know that traveling is for everyone! You don’t have to have a lot of money to experience the world. There are so many opportunities out there.
How did you decide upon the title and direction of your blog?
I needed the name of my blog to be very broad. I wanted to write about food and travel and everything else that I enjoy. I needed something limitless.
On a flight home from Buenos Aires back in November 2009, I read these words in a magazine article, “Food is the only thing that is necessary and an indulgence.” I wrote it down on my boarding pass and started working on Necessary Indulgences as soon as I got home.
What is your favorite blogging experience?
I really enjoy the feedback from readers. I love hearing about their travel and food experiences and seeing their pictures.
What has been your most treasured travel experience?
Learning about other cultures and religions. It’s made me a better person.
If you could return to any one of the locations you have visited, where would it be and why?
So far there are three places:
Thailand, South Africa and India. I love the vibe of all three and I can’t wait to experience more. I only got a small taste… I want to go back and taste some more; literally and figuratively.
What location is at the top of your bucket list today?
Peru with our kids.
My tagline is Eat to Live, Travel to Eat – I believe that the best way to understand a place and its culture is through food. Food brings people together, no matter who you are or where you are.
